Three 1950s Inventions We Couldn’t Live Without Today

There are many 1950s inventions that changed our world. Did you know that the pacemaker was invented in 1950? What about the first credit card in 1951? This decade brought us a host of new innovations. Below are three inventions that we think would be hard to live without today.

  • The Bar Code (1952)– You may not think about it very much, but the invention of the bar code changed a lot about our world. We use them when we buy just about anything at the store. They are an important part of sending and receiving mail. They are even a common componant of security these days. Our world would be a completely different place without them.
  • The Computer Modem (1958)– Our modern world runs on computers. We live in a digital age, and without early computer advancements, we would not be where we are today. It ay be surprising that the first computer modem was actually invented in the late 1950s.
  • Color TV (1953)– While the technology was in the works for a few years, the first comercial color tv brodcast arived in 1953. Of course, this may not be as big as things like the space pragram or medical advancements, it’s hard for us to imagine a world without color tv.
