Collider just recently published a list of 10 of the most influential 1950s Sci-Fi movies. Check out our favorites from the list below.

Them! (1954)

It’s hard to think of a better ’50s drive-in classic than “Them!” In many ways, this film perfectly represents the creature features of the decade. So many of these films dealt with the threat of nuclear radiation, which in movie-land translated to radiation making something normal huge and scary. “Them!” was one of the first and certainly one of the best. Who’d have thought watching a town be terrorized by overgrown ants could be so entertaining?

The Fly (1958)

Based on the name, you might think this film followed suit in the giant bug tradition. However, This was not your average huge insect double-feature monster movie. “”The Fly” was part murder mystery and part Frankenstein. The film did an amazing job of questioning the dangers of man toying with science.

Attack of the 50-Foot Woman (1958)

Maybe not as cerebral as “The Fly,” “Attack of the 50-Foot Woman” is still a real classic. In some ways, it takes itself less seriously, making for a fun and sometimes campy Sci-Fi outing. However, below the surface, the film dealt with gender roles and society’s views toward women while still having a good time doing it.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

We certainly could not have a list of the best 1950s Sci-Fi movies without including “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” This one left behind the silly fun of much of the decade’s science fiction in favor of a more thought-provoking story. The film flips the alien invader script to ask if mankind is the real danger.
