As the holiday approaches, those of us with a sweet tooth are reminded of the Halloween Candy of our childhood. It isn’t hard to get nostalgic this time of year. It can be pretty interesting to look back at the popular candy of the 1950s. Some of the sweet treats that came out during that decade may sound strange today, while others remain popular. Below are some of the unique candies that came out of the 1950s.
Satellite Wafers Were a Very 1950s Candy
NECCO Wafers had been around for quite some time, but these added a 1950s twist. Responding to the increasing interest in space expiration, these flying-saucer-shaped snacks brought a fun sci-fi element to the delicious sweet.
Rocky Road. Not the Ice Cream, the Candy Bar
This is one we don’t hear too much about these days. The Rocky Road candy bar was a unique blend of milk chocolate and marshmallow. While this one can definitely still be found, it is not quite as popular as it was back then.
Fizzies Were Bubbly Fun
This one is not exactly a candy, but it is uniquely ‘50s. As strange as it may sound, these were a lot like Alka Seltzer but with a better flavor. 1950s kids enjoyed the fruity, fizzy beverages they got by dropping these tablets in a glass of water.
