’50s drive-in movies hold a special place in Cinema history. These films were not afraid to venture into new territory and test the limits of imagination. This creative period led to some of the best monster movies and creature features in our history. The films below should definitely find a spot on your Halloween viewing list.

The Blob

The Blob starred a young Steve McQueen, and is remembered for its unique take on the monster movie genre. It managed to blend science-fiction, horror, and a surprising amount of humor to create something special.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

This film has been remade and reimagined so many times, it’s hard to keep all the different versions straight. The 1956 film, however, is where it started. This film addressed Cold War-era paranoia and asked “What if people aren’t who they appear?”

Creature From the Black Lagoon

This 1954 classic added a new face to the Universal Monsters among Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Woflman. The “Creature” took an interesting dramatic turn telling a story that was more than just scares. This one is a must-see for monster movie fans.

House on Haunted Hill

This 1959 film features some great scares and a story that expertly combines paranormal thrills with wit, intelligence, and mystery. Furthermore, this one includes one of the strongest performances from the late great Vincent Price.
